MahoganyBooks Presents: The Lit Lounge

Books, Community, Words, & You

Well, I don't just have a favorite book, but one that is at the top of my list is No Disrespect by Sista Souljah. I read this book several years ago and was really ushered into her coming of age-- allowed to be apart of her experiences. It was one of my first most vivid voices of a woman that I had ever heard...in a book... and I reveled in her candidness.

No Disrespect is definately a fav of mine in that book you will find stories that are parallel to your own life exp. Another favorite is The Browder Files Vol 1&2 a lot of good info.... If you have not read it yet try The Devil & Dave Chapelle by William Jelani Cobb also All about Love by bell hooks really everything by her is good to go...

The last two books you mentioned, Zoo, are books that I am really interested in checking out. Actually, I am kind of ashamed to say that I have not read bell hooks. She is definitely on my list of must reads.

However, my favorite books of all time are Two Thousand Seasons, by Ayi Kwei Armah & The Seventh Octave, Saul Williams. Those are books that always remain fresh and new for me every time I read them.

One of mines is

BluePrint For Black Power by Amos Wilson.
This brother has passed, but every black person needs to read this book.
It might help come up with a serious plan to deal with all this no job stuff.
Peace
